EyeLeash is the private journal of Jade, a 17-almost-18-year-old girl, who recently graduated from an all-girl high school. She wants to lose her virginity with Novan, a boy she knew from earlier in her life, and she struggles with how she should accomplish that.
Jess C. Scott sent me a PDF of EyeLeash, her first indie novel some months ago, in exchange for an electronic copy of one of my books. We also swapped blog interviews.
This novel is written in an alternative format, as a personal online journal, and it’s risqué for a YA novel, because of all the talk about sex. Surprisingly, the format did not distract me, and the story kept my attention. It became clear to me early on that not only did Novan have an emotional attachment to Jade, but Jade also was whipping herself up into an emotional attachment to Novan, even though they both said there was nothing between them. As the story progressed, Jade descended from confused to disturbed to pitiful. I began to feel sorry for Novan, wanting to tell him just to forget about this girl, because she has to get herself together before she could be a viable partner to any man.
Jade spends too much time online, which seems to isolate her from those around her, including her parents, though she clearly doesn’t realize it. This leaves her with some pretty crazy ideas about sex and some pretty dysfunctional obsessions. She dwells on sex with Novan almost exclusively, obsessively, so much that I sensed she was using these thoughts to cover up for something else that was troubling her, like her inability to love. Then when Novan backs off from the friends-with-benefits deal, she automatically assumes there’s something wrong with her, while it was obvious even to me that it had nothing to do with her. (Don’t worry about what people think about you, because if you knew how little time they actually spent thinking about you, then you’d really be worried. People spend more time figuring out what they want for lunch than they do thinking about you.)
Jade clearly has issues, which probably stem from her past, from her relationship with her parents—Where were they, anyhow? Throughout this entire story, they never did anything worthy of being ranted about in her journal?—or her relationships with her peers. While I was happy with how the story turned out—and I’m not giving away the ending—these aspects of Jade’s psyche were never explored, not even in the epilogue, leaving me unsatisfied.
I liked the book a lot, and I hope to read more books like this. I actually deducted ½ star from the full 4 stars, because I wanted to know more about Jess. Even so, this is clearly a decent story, quite readable and worth checking out, especially if you want to read something a little different than the norm.

Pragmatic Play مسيطرة شوية ووطبعًا Play’n GO وNetEnt.

OK — have been messing about with this thing for about four months now and I keep coming back, so figured I’d chuck my thoughts in since someone asked me last week. I’m based in the UK, mostly stick to footie and the horses, small stakes, so take it how you like.
The reason I started using it was genuinely pretty stupid — I could never figure out what an e/w payout actually came to when the place terms changed. Basically I’d eyeball it and moan when the payout landed. Now punch the numbers in before every slip, even a simple single bet.
Their single bet calculator tool is the bit I use most — you put in the price and your stake and you get profit and total return straight away, fractional or decimal, doesn’t matter. Same tool covers the multiples — doubles and trebles returns, lucky 15s, yankees, honestly that’s where I’d always got it wrong. If you fancy a poke about, it’s here lucky63 calculator and there’s no login wall, which I appreciated.
The thing that really made a difference were the geekier extras. The probability thing that shows what margin’s baked in, and there’s the kelly staking calculator — I stick to fractional kelly as the full version is a quick route to a dead bankroll. The dutching one is handy too if I’m covering two or three runners.
Couple of gripes. The interface feels very functional, let’s say — zero flash, which honestly I don’t mind but some will. Phone-wise it’s usable although the acca grid are a squeeze. And nothing on the app store, it’s a website and that’s it — fine by me but worth saying.
Anyway. Costs nowt, not plastered in adverts, does what it says. If you even now does the maths on paper, try it — saved me a fair few “wait, that’s it?” moments.
Right — have been messing about with this thing for maybe six months now and it’s stuck on my phone, so thought I’d say something since a mate asked me last week. I’m UK based, mainly bet football and racing, a fiver here and there, so take it how you like.
How I found it was genuinely pretty stupid — I could never get my head round what an ew payout actually was once you get five places instead of three. I’d just guess and get a shock. Now I punch the numbers in before I place anything, even a straight one-selection punt.
Their single bet calculator tool is the part I’m on daily — you drop in stake and odds and you get profit and total return straight away, fractional or decimal, doesn’t matter. There’s also the bigger stuff — trebles maths, lucky 15 and lucky 63, patents and yankees, and that’s where I’d always lose track. Have a go yourself, it’s over at what is a lucky 63 and it’s free with no account nonsense.
One thing that genuinely shifted things for me was the geekier extras. There’s an probability calculator which shows you what margin’s baked in, and a kelly staking calculator — I run quarter kelly since full stakes are far too aggressive. The dutch tool is handy too when I’m spreading across selections.
It’s not perfect mind. The layout is very functional, let’s say — no polish, it’s clearly function over form. On my phone it’s fine though the acca grid make you pinch and zoom. There’s no app, it’s browser only — doesn’t bother me but worth saying.
Anyway. Costs nowt, not plastered in adverts, does the job. Anyone who honestly does the maths on paper, give it a go — saves me a load of “wait, that’s it?” moments.

So — been on this thing for something like six months now and it’s basically bookmarked at this point, reckon I’d say something since someone asked me a few days back. Am in the UK, mainly bet football and racing, small stakes, so take it how you like.
The reason I started using it was honestly pretty stupid — I couldn’t ever work out what an e/w return actually was when the place terms changed. Basically I’d eyeball it and moan when the payout landed. Now stick my stake in first, every time, even a straight one-selection punt.
Their single bet calculator tool is the part I open most — you put in your stake, the odds and it shows profit and total return instantly, fractional or decimal, doesn’t matter. Same tool covers the bigger stuff — doubles and trebles maths, lucky 15s, yankees, honestly that’s where most people I know mess it up. Have a go yourself, it’s here lucky 63 bet calculator — free, no signup.
The thing that actually made a difference were the nerdier bits. They’ve got an probability thing which shows you the overround, and a kelly criterion calculator — I use half kelly because full kelly is a quick route to a dead bankroll. The dutch tool is decent when I’m covering two or three runners.
It’s not perfect mind. Its interface looks very functional, let’s say — zero frills, looks like it was built by someone who cares more about maths than colours. On my phone it’s fine but the acca grid are a squeeze. And no app, just the site — fine by me but you asked.
So yeah. Free, barely any ads, does the job. If anyone honestly adds it up in their head, give it a go — it’s saved me plenty of arguments with the bookie.
